Hi there, I’m Debbie, a Singapore-born, Hong Kong-based journalist who travels frequently between the two cities and around Asia. I started my writing career as a local news reporter at Singapore’s national broadsheet The Straits Times, before moving to the Business Times as a dining correspondent for over four years. I later joined the Michelin Guide Singapore and Hong Kong Macau as their founding digital editor, where I drove¬†digital content strategy for Michelin’s first-ever editorial platforms¬†for the region.

In these past few years, I have chalked up as many air miles as I have calories and I’m very grateful for all the privileged insider’s access I have been given in pursuit of the world’s finest food: I’ve flown to Copenhagen for a meal at Noma, dined in the good – and very skillful – hands of Jiro Ono in Tokyo and at Alain Passard’s farmhouse in Normandy, was fed by Michel Roux Sr in Vietnam, toured La Boqueria in Barcelona with Ferran Adria and Singapore’s Tekka Market with Marco Pierre White, and countless other wonderful dining experiences that I felt I had to pen down before my memory escapes me.

I’ve recently switched to a day job in non-food media and it has absolutely nothing to do with this blog. Yong & Hungry is my super-casual repository to park my personal views, restaurant reviews and other (probably uncalled-for) opinions on food-related trends and issues. Because dining opinion is highly subjective and I always love a good debate, feel free to write in to me to agree, disagree, or share your favourite hidden finds. I’m all ears.
